Jewelry is something that everyone loves and practically everyone gets to wear. However, it is interesting to learn that there are some people around you who have a fear for gold. And this fear for gold has a medical name, aurophobia.
People suffering from aurophobia generally develop panic attacks when exposed to gold, or when they see gold. Different people suffer from different symptoms of the panic attack like irregular heartbeat, nausea, sweating, rapid breathing, shortness of breath and a feeling of dread on seeing gold.
Being a victim of aurophobia proves to be a very uncomfortable as the victim cannot do things normal people do. Practically everyone wears some gold or other, so when they come across people with gold they tend to have panic attacks. This means that it is rather difficult for them to meet people for fear of getting panic attacks when in their vicinity. With this, the patient will also find it rather difficult to climb the opportunity ladder as everyone wears gold. The boss, leader and co-workers are sure to wear gold and if the patient is not comfortable with them, it will be very difficult for them to show their prowess to them, and thus earn a promotion.
With this, it shows that income potential of the patient is reduced considerably. A low income is okay for a single person, however, once married, the spouse is sure to want some gold for the wedding and special occasions. The patient not only feels uncomfortable around gold, but may also not have sufficient money to buy gold. Then if there is a family, and a daughter, how can the patient make investments in gold for the girl and her future? So it can be seen that living with aurophobia is indeed very difficult.
However, there is no need of worrying if you suffer from aurophobia as it is a curable condition. You find many drugs in the market that claim to help cure aurophobia; however, it is basically not that useful to take such drugs with the intention of curing aurophobia. These drugs provide only temporary cure from aurophobia, where the symptoms recur after the discontinuation of the drugs. In addition to this, there are also many side effects that accompany the use of the drugs, and many withdrawal symptoms.
Some people offer a remedy for aurophobia where they claim that repeated exposure to gold will rid the person of aurophobia. However, this is not a good treatment option as it is more than likely that the person will have a more intense panic attack and not get cured of the condition. Of the lot, it is better to have the person suffering from aurophobia to have some counseling from a psychologist or a representative from a phobia clinic.
These people can help eliminate the actual fear the person has wherein aurophobia developed. Once this trigger point is eliminated from the brain from the patient, it is more than likely that the patient will be relieved from aurophobia.
