Asymmetriphobia: Information, Causes and Treatment
October 6, 2008

With asymmetriphobia, you may feel frightened or irritated with asymmetry in the home. But too much of symmetry may get on the nerves of others. This is why it is better to eliminate asymmetriphobia as soon as possible.

It is interesting, and heartening to learn that many people suffer from some form of phobia or the other. There are people suffering from phobias of heights, numbers, men and also stars. There is nothing to feel ashamed of phobias, as practically everyone harbors one phobia or the other.

Asymmetriphobia is another phobia where the sufferer has a fear of asymmetrical things. These people are generally methodical people, and when they find that their work is not symmetrical, or orderly as they had wanted or envisioned it to be, they usually end up in panic attacks. When in a panic attack, they usually have irregular heartbeats, rapid breathing, shortness of breath and sweating. Different people tend to have different symptoms when in a panic attack.

Asymmetriphobia is also referred to as a fear of asymmetrical things and living with a phobia may be quite difficult for not only the victim, but also for near and dear ones. With asymmetriphobia, a lop-sided table or perhaps food being placed on one side of the table may irritate the victim. However, similarly people living around him or her who are not so particular about symmetry tend to get irritated with this.

Eventually, with asymmetriphobia, there may be unhappiness in a married life where the partner will not be able to tolerate the other's phobia. Children too may not be able to tolerate their parent having asymmetriphobia and neither will friends and co-workers. This eventually may make the victim a loner with no partners or friends and thus, an impact on the social life of the person.

However, there is nothing to despair as this is a condition that can be cured. Though there are drugs available in the market, it is not that feasible to take drugs. This is because drugs only give temporary relief from asymmetriphobia which occurs from the chemical reaction of the drug. Moreover, these drugs tend to have side effects, and some people also suffer from its withdrawal symptoms. So it is not advisable to resort to drugs to eliminate asymmetriphobia.

There are some people who attribute exposure of the asymmetriphobia victim to as many asymmetrical things as possible a great means of eliminating asymmetriphobia. However, this is not effective as it tends to give lots of discomfort to the patient and often makes the condition worse than before. So this too is not the right means of eliminating asymmetriphobia.

The best way to get rid of asymmetriphobia will be to visit one of the many phobia centers. They have psychologists who offer counseling to eliminate all fear of asymmetrical things from your brain. With this, you can find a cure for asymmetriphobia as once the fear is removed; there will be no fear at all on the part of the patient.

The thing that really triggers asymmetriphobia may be some event or fetish for cleanliness and symmetry. So looking at anything asymmetrical usually triggers some irritation and fear in the victim. So the first thing that has to be done is to instill the thought that there is nothing wrong in having things asymmetrical, and then slowly eradicate the fear and with it, asymmetriphobia.
