Asthenophobia: Information, Causes and Treatment
March 12, 2010

There is no point living in embarrassment because of asthenophobia. This is because there are many people suffering from this condition, and it can be cured with the right treatment.

It is not embarrassing having a hidden and secret fear of something or the other. This is because many people suffer from some fear or the other; it may be a fear of water, of heights or of some people. Such types of fear are called phobias, and there are many types of phobia in the world today including asthenophobia.

Asthenophobia is a condition where a person has a persistent fear of weakness or fainting. This is a common phobia, where many people suffer days of distress because of asthenophobia. Asthenophobia is referred to by other names like fear of fainting and fear of weakness. With asthenophobia, it proves to be rather difficult to lead a normal life as the victim will always fear standing for long, doing any exercise or playing games.

School, college, home and office all require a person to have the endurance to whatever it is that they have to do like duties, games and responsibilities. With asthenophobia, the person may feel inept in doing any of these things, and thus unhappiness in life. Promotions may not be given, and friends and family will not be happy with the condition.

Asthenophobia usually starts with an incident some time early in life when the person may have had fainting bouts because of anemia. In such cases, he or she may have fainted in the middle of crowds or roads and may have endured some accident or embarrassment in the process. This incident lingers in the mind of the victim, and so to avoid such an accident or embarrassment in the future, the person may not stand for long, work for long or do any strenuous physical exercises for a period of time for fear of fainting or feeling weakness.

And it is with this that asthenophobia sets in. One tends to avoid such activities out of fear and this is asthenophobia. It is not that asthenophobia is incurable; it can be cured with the right treatment. There are many drugs found in the market that state the curing of asthenophobia. However, this is not true as these drugs may only provide some temporary relief from asthenophobia, and not cure it. This relief is provided with the chemical reaction of the drug. These drugs can also have some side effects and withdrawal symptoms which should be avoided.

It is instead better to take the victim to one of the many phobia centers or counseling centers where asthenophobia can be cured through counseling and psychology. With counseling, the fear that has manifested itself in the brain of the victim is eradicated over a period of time. This may take a few months; but the results are positive and permanent wherein asthenophobia is eliminated forever from the victim.

So if you suffer from asthenophobia, don't hide from it. Discuss your problem with a friend or relative or surf the internet for help from asthenophobia. You can surely be rid of your condition and live a healthy and fear free life thereafter.
