||||||||||||||||||
People all across the world have some hidden fear of some place, object or person. These fears are generally termed as phobias, and can range from a fear of heights, closed places, darkness and many other things. One of these phobias is arithmophobia, which is basically a persistent and abnormal fear of numbers and has caused lots of people unnecessary stress.
Arithmophobia is a condition that is known by several other names like numerophobia and fear of numbers. When suffering from arithmophobia, it can cause lots of discomfort in the life of the sufferer as it places some bad impacts on the quality of life. There may be panic attacks when faced with numbers, numerical entities and numerical problems. These panic attacks make the sufferer confused and embarrassed of their situation, and thus stay away from loved ones and business associates.
When in such a panic attack, the arithmophobia sufferer experiences shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, nausea, sweating, rapid breathing and an overall feeling of dread on facing and using numbers. However, there are cases where people may suffer from different symptoms when suffering from arithmophobia.
It is rather difficult living with arithmophobia as you tend to lose your self confidence. It tends to affect your career, school and family life greatly wherein you will be compelled to live in fear of numbers. It proves to be rather difficult to earn a living with arithmophobia as all jobs are in some way or the other related with numbers. If not the job itself, you have to get involved when calculating your expenses and income.
Having a normal life with arithmophobia tends to be difficult as you have to go dating, get married, raise children and pay bills for all these parts of life. And bills involve numbers. So with arithmophobia, it proves to be rather difficult to do all these normal, day to day activities.
Like all other fears and phobias, arithmophobia is usually created by your own unconscious mind. It creates a protective mechanism where some point in the past; you may have undergone some event that links with numbers and emotional trauma. The start of the fear may be some real life scare while the condition is again triggered by other benign events like movies, TV or someone else going through the same trauma. Once this fear manifests itself in the brain, the unconscious mind tends to steer away from numbers to that there will be no discomfort anymore. And with this, arithmophobia is born. Different people have different responses to arithmophobia where some have it practically all the time while others just tend to feel it as response to direct stimuli.
There are some drugs available in the drug market that helps you overcome arithmophobia. However, these drugs come associated with some side effects and withdrawal symptoms that can be rather severe. This is why taking these drugs to cure arithmophobia is not worth it. Moreover, these drugs don't actually cure the sufferer from arithmophobia. They only suppress the condition and symptoms temporarily through its chemical reactions.
The better alternative for freedom from arithmophobia would be to join phobia clinics where they use modern and fast methods to eliminate your fear of numbers. There is seldom any involvement of any drugs wherein after some counseling, you learn to control your emotions, and are eliminated from any fear of numbers. This is a better choice for treatment from arithmophobia as this treatment is permanent as the fear of numbers is completely eradicated from the brain through counseling and psychology.
