Menopause Anxiety: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
July 25, 2008

Do you know about menopause anxiety? You also may want to know Perimenopause symptom information.

One of the greatest eras ever to be alive was enjoyed by the baby-boomers. Many changes took place in our world during the last forty and more years. It was awesome to watch – and to feel that we were a part of a world being made for the better. Women also have advanced in their roles, too. But the world continues to move on – and we continue to age with it. Now its time to face it, menopause anxiety is knocking at the door.

Menopause, and perimenopause, comes with their own unique set of symptoms, and difficulties. Probably the greatest difficulty is that she must come to terms about realizing that she is past the age of fertility – her own youthfulness has reached an end. This, in itself, can bring in its own share of menopause anxiety.

The Symptoms of menopause anxiety – What Can Be Expected

While many women seem to always have a degree of anxiety about them, a number of these will find that it will become “full-blown” during menopause. They may have been largely cool-headed before, but now there is a definite menopause anxiety. Things are different.

Here are a few other things that will also change during this time:

  • Anxiety – often the first symptom. The menopause anxiety could take place in many forms could take place in many forms – even for some that have not been normally anxious before. This does include anxiety attacks (often called panic attacks), a fear without any real reason, nervousness, and a worrisome ness that is accompanied with depression. It is possible that menopause anxiety is not caused by menopause, but it may be amplified by it. This could be heightened further by her loss of being able to have children, and at about the same time, her children may also be leaving home.
  • Hot flashes – it seems that women who are normally anxious are probably going to have hot flashes. These can be made worse by alcohol, spicy foods, stress, hot foods, and a hot environment.
  • Changing estrogen levels – when the hormones fluctuate – so do the mood swings. It will also affect your calmness, and your energy levels.
  • Additional symptoms – these may include depression, irritability and forgetfulness, and possibly a weight gain.

Cause of menopause anxiety – Why Is There So Much Anxiety?

Women today operate daily on a basis of continual stress. Much of what they do places them under it – from watching the children, to caring for parents, and, in addition, many work outside the home. A constant stress is the result – and our bodies just are not designed for it. A price for it will be paid eventually.

The level of menopause anxiety can be a result of the high anxiety life styles we live – or, at least, it will add to it. Estrogen levels normally dominate at the beginning of the menstrual cycle, and then, progesterone levels take the lead in the last half. This latter hormone has a natural calming effect. However, in perimenopause, there often will be no ovulation, so the progesterone levels never get very high, but the anxiety levels may – without the calming effect of progesterone.

The Help – What Can You Do To Relieve The Menopause Anxiety?

Before you come to think that everyone has it the same, consider these facts:

  • Only 50% of women have problems with menopause
  • 25% of women have severe problems
  • the other 25% either have no problems with it, or need no help in getting through it

Here are a few things that can help relive the symptoms of menopause anxiety:

  • Eat Right – There is a great need to replace lost or reduced hormones. This includes eating foods that have phytoestrogens, such as soy and linseed. These hormones will help hot flushes to be reduced. Also, calcium is needed to fight bone loss, about 1,000 mg per day.
  • Get regular exercise – preferably those exercises which are done while on your feet – such as walking, running, etc. This will help prevent bone loss, and it will provide a better muscle, body tone, which will help to make you feel better overall.
  • Use natural food supplements – some of these works well to help relieve symptoms of menopause anxiety. Be sure to check your local drugstore for these, and you may need advice to determine if they can be taken with other prescriptions.

Hope this article helps you to overcome in menopause anxiety.
