Anxiety and Depression: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
May 16, 2008

Natural healing for anxiety and depression can be found. Attacking anxiety and depression help improve your life.

Some individuals seem to just live in the sunshine all the time. Their smiles and seeming lack of care can almost make one a little bit jealous. How joyous it is when those sun-warmed days and blue skies are around us, and things are going well. But there are many, yes, many who wonder if they will ever see those kinds of days again. They know that things just don't feel right to them, and a cloud seems to hang there - around them all the time; often, almost immobilizing them. This article will show some things that you can do to bring some relief to your anxiety and depression.

The Primary Causes of Anxiety and Depression

While it is true that anxiety and depression have stopped and decided to camp out at your house, you are not alone. Statistics show that over 19 million Americans of all age-levels, experience daily depression, or similar emotional disorders. We are also told that as many as 9 out of 10 of these people can get some kind of help that actually will benefit them.

The things that bring about such anxiety and depression are a little uncertain. The bottom line is still not known. It does appear, however, to stem from a chemical imbalance in the brain. This imbalance could be caused by one of (or more) the following factors:

  • Heredity - you may have inherited it from your parents - but not always.
  • Nutritional deficit - investigations show that there is often a lack of essential minerals and vitamins present in those who suffer from anxiety and depression.
  • Imbalance of neurotransmitter chemicals in the brain.
  • Factors of life - environment, upbringing, and other things like stress, etc.

Here are four steps to help you cope with anxiety and depression…

The First Step - Help Is Around the Corner

The good news about the fact that it is known to be caused by a chemical imbalance is that this is a matter that can be adjusted - in nearly every case. Medicines are available that can help to bring these imbalances that cause anxiety and depression under control. They have been around for awhile, so be sure to talk to your doctor about them. A period of adjustment of medicine levels is necessary, but they can definitely help. Some of these medicines have some rather strong side effects, so be sure to also do your homework, and investigate them.

The Second Step - You Are the Key

It appears that this is one of the most important things that need to be understood. The situations or circumstances we may find ourselves in are often not under our control. But whether or not we choose to do anything with the lemons that have fallen into our lap or not - is up to the individual. We can continue to sit around and bemoan the fact that the lemons are there, or we can choose to take advantage of where we find ourselves. In other words, get out the juicer and make some enjoyable lemonade. Attitude and determination is a major part of the solution. Though the clouds come, you still have power to make a choice - succumb to it, and become a prisoner of it, or seek to have a hand in helping to deliver yourself, and gain some control of it.

Third Step - Get Some Regular Exercise

This may sound rather strange in what is supposed to be a solution to a chemical imbalance. But let me put some minds at ease and say first that exercise is not a cure for anxiety and depression. It is rather a tool whereby the symptoms can be more easily dealt with. It will allow you to have a greater ability to manage the problem.

Exercise has already proven to be a great help in the treatment of many problems of the body. Recent studies, however, are also showing that 30 minutes of exercise a day, 3 to 5 times a week are also useful in improving the symptoms of depression. There is also some evidence that shows that exercise may even affect the brain in a way that promotes the better functioning of the brain's neurotransmitters! That same program of exercise can also help your anxiety and depression by boosting your levels of endorphins - which will definitely help you feel better, will relax your muscles, help you sleep better, and can reduce the levels of cortisol - the stress hormone.

Fourth Step - Take Natural Dietary Supplements for a Better Daily Balance

A balanced approach to a solution for anxiety and depression would not be complete without mentioning natural food supplements. These are definitely essential as an aid to obtaining relief. Here are three that appear to be the most helpful:

  • St. John's Wort - this is thought to be the best alternative medicine for this need. The evidence is in, clinically, that it is effective against anxiety and depression, but needs 2-6 weeks to become fully effective.
  • Kava Kava - this one has been shown to be an effective mood stabilizer and can reduce the symptoms of stress and anxiety.
  • Passion Flower - its ability to provide a calming effect is widely known.

These four steps have the ability to make a difference in your life. Taking them can make a difference - but take the first one today.

Anxiety and depression are not funny at all. After many years of I've suffered. So just recently, someone led me to this lunatic Dr. Her name is Dr. Clark. I thought she was crazy. Well, I have no choice, I've been on medication for many years and the side effects are unbearable. So I decide to give this crazy Dr. a try. All my Anxiety, my depression, my migrain, my cholesterol, and my many other diseases are gone. Not to mention, THERE IS NO SIDE EFFECT WHATSOEVER!
